I asked myself, "Why am I doing this? Why am I being judged? It saddens me greatly to find I have been criticized on everything I am," says Hickson, a veteran military intelligence officer who has been awarded the Bronze Star, six Purple Hearts and six Service Medals.

A month ago, I left my seat at the White House with Senator Patrick Leahy when he delivered his speech to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The event was the last public speech before the hearing was scheduled for June 30. But as I left the Capitol with Senator Leahy, I felt a moment of calm.

"Thank you for coming today to tell your story. Thank you for standing up for women and our military," said the senator.

And speaking to the women of this country who have had to witness how some of their best friends, colleagues, spouses have been the targets of this administration, Senator Leahy continued: "I would like to tell you this: We're sorry this happened. We're sorry this country is hurt. And we are sorry we cannot stand up to you, the daughters of America. We are so sorry that you have to face this. And we don't care if you have a job or an income or a job offer. We care if you are an American. We care for the right to life."

I will never be able to thank Senator Leahy enough for speaking in the public square and raising his voice for us to stand up for our country. We have never faced the kind of outrage that we are experiencing today.

One woman who made history by standing up for women said: "I know now what my generation thought when it voted for the first women in the Senate, that women's rights were something to be sacrificed for."

Now, after years of fighting for those same rights, a small group of Republicans is still trying to bring our country to heel.

I asked myself, "Why am I doing this? Why am I being judged? It saddens me greatly to find I have been criticized on everything I am," says Hickson, a veteran military intelligence officer who has been awarded the Bronze Star, six Purple Hearts and six Service Medals.

"This is my country and this is my family," she says before the hearing starts.

"I was born to serve this country so that my sons could have a fighting future and that my daughters could grow up to be proud women."

A month ago, I left my seat at the White House with Senator Patrick Leahy when he delivered his speech to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The event was the last public speech before the hearing was scheduled for June 30. But as I left the Capitol with Senator Leahy, I felt a moment of calm.

"Thank you for coming today to tell your story. Thank you for standing up for women and our military," said the senator.

And speaking to the women of this country who have had to witness how some of their best friends, colleagues, spouses have been the targets of this administration, Senator Leahy continued: "I would like to tell you this: We're sorry this happened. We're sorry this country is hurt. And we are sorry we cannot stand up to you, the daughters of America. We are so sorry that you have to face this. And we don't care if you have a job or an income or a job offer. We care if you are an American. We care for the right to life."

I will never be able to thank Senator Leahy enough for speaking in the public square and raising his voice for us to stand up for our country. We have never faced the kind of outrage that we are experiencing today.

One woman who made history by standing up for women said: "I know now what my generation thought when it voted for the first women in the Senate, that women's rights were something to be sacrificed for."

Now, after years of fighting for those same rights, a small group of Republicans is still trying to bring our country to heel.

My point is that Trump has said some things that I consider to be very dangerous and outrageous. So, yes, that's something that a President with his history is allowed to say, but again, I think it's probably a fair comment.

It's complicated. And I hope this is resolved. But basically, he's putting the troops back on the border, so that he can do stuff like the $110 billion plan to repair his wall and other things like that.
