US President Barack Obama met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday night.
His statement read: "The United States strongly condemns this latest act of aggression and we are monitoring the situation closely.
"At this time we do not believe there is any evidence that any lives were lost or injured. We strongly urge all sides to respect the humanitarian crisis in North Korea."
It is believed two of the other Chinese military aircraft involved in the incident had also made contact with the aircraft with air traffic control that morning.

He added that it had been "hard to verify" how many passengers had boarded the doomed aircraft but that its aircraft had "not failed in air safety standards".
An air accident investigation team has been set up to look into the incident, the spokesman said, though the US could not yet confirm the details due to the ongoing investigation.

Rescue worker says a dog died after being shot by police during a dog attack
Police chase dog down a main road on the outskirts of Belfast, killing it after an armed officer said it was a "possible terrorist".
The incident happened at around 5pm on Tuesday near the town's main railway station when one of the officers on his motorbike was struck by a crossbow-wielding dog.
There was no immediate comment from police.

A number of witnesses have said the officer fired two shots and then ran off with the dog, which had become agitated.
The dog had become enraged when a police officer tried to drive past it after failing to let it back inside the station, witnesses said.
The dog jumped up and into the police car and then the man was shot in the leg, the DUP's Jamie Reynolds said.
Mr Reynolds said: "My sister-in-law was standing next to me in the street when my niece came running out of the station. The dog was running around the vehicle trying to get away from the man."
"It kept chasing the police car up to the car park and then jumped on it and they got it out quickly.
"The dog killed the police officer and then fell back into the police car, which then stopped and started chasing the police car."
The dog was apparently very aggressive but ran away and the dog was killed by the officer, Mr Reynolds added.
Earlier, a Derry-based police officer told the North Down newspaper the officer fired two shots when the dog tried to run at police.
He said the officer was hit in the chest after the dog came on his motorbike to attack him on the road.

The plane disappeared from radar around 13:30hrs, and it was last seen flying low above the waters of north west Japan, according to Japan's official Ota News agency.
An emergency response team headed by the US Coast Guard was called in to search for the downed aircraft.
A second Chinese jet, a transport aircraft, was also reported to have been hit.
US President Barack Obama met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday night.
His statement read: "The United States strongly condemns this latest act of aggression and we are monitoring the situation closely.
"At this time we do not believe there is any evidence that any lives were lost or injured. We strongly urge all sides to respect the humanitarian crisis in North Korea."
It is believed two of the other Chinese military aircraft involved in the incident had also made contact with the aircraft with air traffic control that morning.
There are also reports it may have come down as the pair flew through international waters at high altitude.

A man accused of stabbing an 18-year-old boy in the chest on the outskirts of Perth on Saturday has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Police say the victim, who has not been named, sustained serious injuries in the incident at the intersection of Gippsland Road and Glenelg Road at about 7pm on Saturday.
He has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in a stable condition.
Detective Superintendent David Clements, from the Geelong police crime scene unit, said the victim was walking to his girlfriend's home from a park at about 8.15pm when he was approached by a white man who pulled him into a parking spot.
The man reportedly stabbed the victim in the chest several times and then fled.
Police do not believe any witnesses to the incident reported the incident to police.
Det Insp Clements said the victim suffered a high level of trauma, and doctors feared his life was in danger.
"victim] sustained a couple of stab wounds to his left chest and was being treated for chest pains," Det Insp Clements said.
"As they treated him he was told his face was bleeding profusely and as they cleaned his face he became conscious again and was able to breathe.
"As soon as he came on stage he got up, spoke to the paramedics and went back onto stage, which I can understand how they may be thinking what a shock that was, as the person is in hospital with serious injuries and being treated by paramedics, but as soon as they saw that his face was bleeding profusely they went for him to the doctor to do some blood work."
